Namibian Adventure Tour

Mar to Oct - start and finish at Windhoek, Namibia

This tour is for bikers who are real nature lovers. Wild animals in the bush, sceneries with bizarre rock formations, narrow mountain passes, waterfalls, the desert with endless horizon and the beaches of the Atlantic. This motorcycle safari is not designed for spoilt chrome fans on two wheels. Great African Outdoors has organized this tour for the bikers who want to experience Namibia authentically.

Who has seen Namibia this way, will never forget it. Purely Africa - in the saddle of a BMW F800 motorbike. 13 days through the bush, on dusty dirt roads and along the daunting dunes of the Namib Desert down to the Atlantic Ocean. Namibia is a vast country often called `Land of contrast`. Those getting the `Namibian Bug` will never get rid of it.

There is nothing cozier than a campfire after a long day ride, holding a chilled beer in the hand when the glowing sunset bows to the evening. The nose picks up tempting flavours of the barbeque. Stories and anecdotes are told, new friends are won. From the bush the voices of the animals sound. At the firmament of the night the Southern Cross shines. This is the way how days die away in Africa.

The bikers are accompanied by an experienced tour guide. A completely equipped escort vehicle for technical support will be provided as well. Accommodation is taken in selected lodges and camps.

Straight after the arrival in Windhoek the biker hit the road, destination Otjiwarongo to enjoy a Game Drive on two wheels into the bush watching the wild animals. The Otjiwa Lodge in Otjiwarongo is the oldest Safari Lodge of Namibia. More than 22 different wild kinds and a big number of white rhinoceroses can be observed their natural environment.

The next destination is the Etosha National Park. Almost all species of the African big game is living here: Elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, rhinoceroses, giraffes, zebras and many antelope's kinds. The visit of the 22,000 square kilometre Etosha National Park is a highlight of a visit to Namibia. In the centre the biker will find the famous Etosha Pan, a gigantic dried out lake, surrounded by grass and thorn savannas, Mopane bushland and dry woods.

The ride to Opuwo is long and hard. The reward is the purpose: The Epupa waterfalls. Their magnificent rumbling is omnipresent. The Kunene river stretches like a green tape through the scenery. It is an impressive picture. Opuwo is the gate to the Kaokoveld in the northwest of Namibia. The remote region to the south of the Kunene river is the native country of the Himba tribe which has retained his ethnic identity and culture in the seclusion of Kaokoland.

The drive southwards is long and dusty, first to Khowarib and the following day to Brandberg, named after the Brandberg mountain ranges, with its 2,579 metres the highest mountains in Namibia. In addition, Brandberg is also the location of the famous island shaped mountain Spitzkoppe Finally the bikers will reach the Atlantic Ocean and the old German city of Swakopmund, a popular seaside resort with many tourist attractions. The townscape is marked by many constructions from German colonial age. A landmark is the Wormann House, built in 1905, a former commercial firm in Bismarck street. Yes, also the street names are German.

The following day will be strenuous. It is a desert ride through the Kuiseb and Gaub passes to Sesriem where the mighty sandy dunes of Sossusvlei are located. The highlight of Namibia in the midst of the Namib Desert is a mucky depression surrounded by mighty sandy dunes. The dunes reach partial heights of 300 metres and they are the highest ones of the world. Very seldom, after heavy rainfall, the mucky depression is filled with water. Then by the hardly water-permeable mucky layers the turquoise-blue lake still continues for a while.

The perfect final of the motorbike safari is the journey through the Kalahari to the Auas Game Lodge close to Windhoek. The trip ends as it has begun: With a game drive into the bush and afterwards in a happy get together around the campfire. It is hard to say farewell to Namibia.
